When you play a slot progressive, always play maximum coins. The reason for this simple rule is if you play do not play the maximum coins, you will only be increasing the jackpot for someone else with no chance of winning it yourself.

Although, there are three types of slot progressives, they all share one thing on common. That is a small percentage of each wager on a slot progressive machine is used to increase the amount of the jackpot. The types of slot progressives differ in the number of machines linked to an individual jackpot.
The first type of slot progressive machine is what is known as the standalone slot progressive machine. The standalone slot progressive machine has its own jackpot amount. Thus, when you playing a standalone slot progressive machine, its jackpot is the only one to increase as a result of the action. Thus, in many cases the jackpot is not large. However, the jackpot is often hit.
The second and most common type of progressive is the linked slot progressive machine. Many of your brick and mortar casinos use this type of progressive. A number of machines are linked together in this type of slot progressive and the machines all share the same jackpot since the jackpot increases on all of the machines in the link whenever anyone plays any of the machines in the link.
The third type of progressive is what is known as the wide area slot progressive. In most cases, you will not find this type of slot progressive machine at an online casinos.
The best number of coins to play is the maximum number of coins on a slot progressive machine to be able to win the progressive jackpot. If you do not play the maximum coins, you are just building the jackpot for someone else with no chance to win it yourself. Just think about this - you only played one coin and your spin landed on the payline, thus, you won $5,000 instead of the jackpot of $5,000,000? Remember, always play maximum coins when playing a slot progressive.
